Right here! Right now!
Welcome to the first week of Into The Shadows intuitive art challenge.
How you choose to take this challenge is up to you.
Use the prompts as the starting point for an art journal spread or go large and create an artwork on canvas or other surface of your choosing.
If you already paint/make intuitive art, go ahead and use your own process. If you haven’t created art in this way before and need some more guidance, you can download a free ebook explaining my intuitive process.
If you would like to share the art that you create and connect with me and others taking the challenge, either share it in the private Moon & Bird Intuitive Art Community FB group or use the hashtag #intotheshadowsart on Instagram or Twitter.
Prompts will be published on Mondays.
What is the shadow?
Simply put, our shadow is the part of ourselves that we hide or deny because we find it unacceptable and we think that others will find it unacceptable too. Our shadow begins to form early in childhood when we are socialised by our parents and teachers and we stifle parts of ourselves to be more acceptable to others and to fit in. This continues as we grow and learn, throughout our lives. Unless we strive to bring these “dark” parts of ourselves into the light, they will appear unconsciously to destroy our relationships, our work, and even our dreams. We unconsciously project our “dark” attributes onto others and will stay stuck in this cycle until we look deeply at ourselves and shine a light into these dark places.
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” – Carl Jung

Here we go...
For the first week, let’s just check in with ourselves and shine a little bit of light on how we are feeling right here and right now. Use your emotions to guide you as you choose colour and line to express yourself. Allow yourself to feel any emotions that come up as you paint or draw, especially any “unacceptable” feelings or “shameful” feelings. Allow your intuition to guide you as you express your feelings and know that every feeling is allowed. If there is a story that is attached to your feelings, express the story in any way that your intuition guides you to. You don’t have to share your art with anyone else if you don’t want to, the important thing here is being deeply honest with ourselves about our feelings.
That’s it for this week. If you feel called to share your work, please don’t forget to use the hashtage #intotheshadowsart on Instagram and Twitter. If you have any questions, please direct them to me either in the Moon & Bird FB group, or in the comments below. I wish you strength on your journey within!
