About Tracy

Tracy Algar is a contemporary landscape artist based in Hermanus in the Whale Coast / Overberg area of South Africa. She works mostly in acrylic paint, collage and mixed media on paper and canvas.

Tracy’s deep love of her environment inspires her work. She likes to paint outdoors to capture not just what the landscape looks like, but also what it feels like to spend time out in the landscape in all types of weather.

Her work can be found in private collections in South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, England, Wales, The Isle of Man, France, Germany, Canada, the USA and Australia.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever Night of 1000 Drawings at @theartgalleryhermanus @hermanusfirstfridaysartwalk. What a busy evening, that went off very well despite the load shedding. The gallery may have been in the dark, but the alley was buzzing with art patrons.

Today is the Christmas Market at the Spookhuis at Mosaic, and the opening of an exhibition with work by @catherinebrennon and me. Also see work by @inkomoproducts and @planzdesign. 11.30am till 5pm. Exhibition runs until mid January.

Gearing’s Point. I painted the underpainting in acrylic on a bench at Gearing’s when the big red sculpture was still there. Finished in the studio in oils. 30 x 22cm.

These three little collage landscapes are part of my contribution to #nightof1000drawings on Friday, 6th December 5-8pm. There will be loads of A5 drawings by amateur and professional Hermanus artists all for sale at R100 each on the night @theartgalleryhermanus . Raising funds for four local charities. You are still in time to contribute a drawing or other artwork for the night and are welcome to drop any contributions off at @theartgalleryhermanus

Voelklip Beach 2, acrylic and mixed media on paper, 27 x 19.5cm. This collage is made up of two of my sketches from Voelklip Beach last Thursday. One of the sketches was of the distant view of the sea and sky and the other of the close up view of the rocks just in front of me.

My demo collage from yesterday’s landscape art workshop at @zesty_lemon_restaurant near Stanford. It was such a lovely day with a fun and creative group of ladies. Swipe for some of my favourite snaps of the day. Just sad I didn’t take a pic of the beautiful lunch that Carmen served us.
