How the commission process works

You can commission a painting created just for you, or to give as a gift to someone special. It’s easy to do. There are 8 stages to the commission process from start to finish. Let me  talk you through them.

Stage 1: Pick a size for your budget

I offer four standard sizes for commissions. If you would like a different size than what you see here, please let me know and I can give you a quote.

  • Small: 50 x 50 cm (19.6 x 19.6 inches)
  • Medium: 75 x 75 cm (29.5 x 29.5 inches)
  • Large: 100 x 100 cm (39.3 x 39.3 inches)
  • Extra Large: 120 x 120 cm (47.2 x 47.2 inches)

The Extended Experience

For an additional fee of R1200 (or your currency equivalent) you can also receive:

  • A fine art print of your painting, the same size or smaller than the commission size. This is the perfect addition if you want to give the portrait to someone and keep the copy, or the other way around!
  • The full time-lapse recorded video of your commission from start to finish and pictures of the process. So you can watch your painting come to life again and again!

Please let me know if you would like this addition to your commission when you contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Stage 2: Contact me to discuss

Please contact me with your requirements via my commission request form below. Please also mention if you have any specific deadlines such as a birthday or anniversary in the message section.

Please note, there is sometimes a waiting list but I will confirm the approximate time scale when you enquire, and I will always try to juggle my schedule to fit in a special occasion. Once I have replied to your submission you can send me your photographs.

Stage 3: Pay to hold your spot

Once we have discussed your commission, you are ready to place your order. To secure your slot in my schedule, pay a 50% deposit (or pay by monthly instalments by arrangement) via Yoco, PayPal or bank transfer. As soon as I receive your payment, I will send you a confirmation email outlining all that was discussed and add you to my waiting list.

The cost of the commission includes:

  • Help and guidance with choosing the perfect reference photo.
  • Only the highest quality, materials are used to produce your painting.
  • Progress pictures of your commissioned artwork.
  • Commissions are painted on 10-oz acid-free archival canvas.
  • An artwork care guide is included.

For South African clients, canvases are shipped ready to hang on their stretcher bars.

For international clients, I will provide a shipping quote for ready to hang on the stretcher, or removed from the stretcher and rolled for shipping. You can then base your choice on which you prefer.

Shipping will be charged after the completion of the painting when it has been packed, measure and weighed. For an approximate shipping cost, please ask.

If you choose to pay by monthly instalments, then the painting will not be started until the 50% deposit is complete.

Please read my terms and conditions for more information on payment, returns and cancellations.

Stage 4: Choose your perfect photo

ow that you are on my waiting list you have some time to choose the perfect picture if you haven’t done so already.

Here are a few tips for choosing a good photograph as reference:

  1. Top down photographs show many of the flowers face-on, which is nice in a painting.
  2. Choose a photographs where the colours are the way you like them (light/shadow, intensity).

Stage 5: Watch your painting as it develops

I will email you just before I start your painting so you can watch the progress on my Instagram and Facebook Page. This will give you the opportunity to make comments along the way and see how your painting is coming together. Please let me know if you would prefer me not to post on social media, in case it spoils a surprise gift.

Stage 6: Give the final approval

Once I have completed the painting I will email you a watermarked photograph for your approval. At this stage I will be able to make any minor adjustments for you at your request. Once you have given final approval and the painting has been scheduled for delivery, I will no longer be able to make any more changes.

Upon full satisfaction of the finished painting, you will then be invoiced for the 50% balance and delivery.

Oil paintings must be left to dry for a few weeks before shipping. Acrylic paintings can be shipped within a few days of finishing.

Stage 7: Packing + delivery

Upon full satisfaction of the finished painting, you will then be invoiced for the delivery. Delivery can take 5 – 15 days depending on the country for delivery via a tracked and secured courier, usually FEDEX. I will provide you with the tracking number once the painting has been scheduled for delivery.

Please let me know if you would like a special handwritten note to be included inside, free of charge.

Stage 8: Leave a review

Once you have safely received your painting, why not send me a testimonial? I would love to hear what you thought of my service as well as the painting that I have created lovingly for you. Please feel free to send it to my email address [email protected] so that I can upload it to my website as well as share it to all my social media followers.

One of the best parts of my job is receiving my client testimonials and seeing pictures of my artwork in their homes! You are welcome to read all my customer testimonials here so you know what to expect when you commission me to paint for you.

I’m looking forward to working with you!
